Hi, I'm Alex. I'm a self-taught full stack developer and a bootstrapping solopreneur with a past life as a photovoltaic and wind turbines electrician. I started my journey as a web developer in 2014 by learning HTML, CSS and Adobe Dreamweaver with the initial goal just to customize the WordPress themes for my vegan raw food blogs. But even though I'm quite OK at content writing/creation, I found writing code much more interesting.
One day (in 2016) I wrote some JavaScript that I ran from the browser's console, while logged into my Facebook account to automatically add (the maximum possible amount of) 5000 'friends' based on common interests (common page likes and groups) and bragged about it in my timeline. That's how I got my first serious webdev freelance jobs. In summer 2017 I then went full-time freelancing.
After 6 years deep in WordPress & WooCommerce freelancing, I hit the brakes in 2023. A growing gut feeling about the ecosystem's direction (both technically and ethically) pushed me to rebuild my skills from scratch with modern technologies. The 2024 WordPress drama proved that gut feeling right. Choosing integrity over a paycheck, I spent nearly two years on minimal welfare to research and rebuild a tech stack that aligns with my vision. As a result I founded avo.codes in 2025 to focus solely on cutting-edge web technologies and meaningful projects.
Vegan since 2007.
Ethical preferences drive many of my technical decisions.
Open Source Absolutist.
Arch Linux, Neovim, Ollama/llama.cpp, Self-hosting - I prioritize freedom and control over convenience.
While frontend is my showcase, my secret weapon lies in backend proficiency: robust APIs, networking, database architecture, and DevOps automation.
Beyond client work, I'm a builder at heart, constantly bootstrapping ambitious projects from zero to one.
If you're building something that matters and want a developer who brings technical skills, clear communication, and integrity to the table — let's talk.
